Cause:
Viral warts, as
the name suggests are caused by virus, most common being human papillomavirus group. Like any other
virus disease, viral warts are contagious and spreads by direct contact.
Viral warts and
other wart like growths:
Viral warts can be
confused at times with other skin growths such as skin-tags (benign skin tumour),
molluscum contagiosa (growth on the skin, looks like white pearls, caused by another
group of virus; often observed in children), moles, birth-marks, lichen planus. A careful
look by a trained doctor could make a clear diagnosis.
Treatment:
Warts, in the past
and even presently are often treated locally with the help of some liquid or solution.
Some cases are treated by cauterization (burning the warts) by skin doctors. All such
measures, it has been observed, are temporary; and the warts reappear after some time.
