PROSTATE ENLARGEMENT
(BENIGN PROSTATE HYPERTROPHY)

by Dr. Rajesh Shah

Definition: BPH (Benign prostatic hyperplasia) is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. The word benign means the enlargement that is not caused by cancer or infection. The word hyperplasia means enlargement.

The prostate is a small gland of size and shape of walnut and is an integral part of male reproductive system.

Remarks: Many symptoms of BPH are related more to the urinary system rather than prostate per se. The symptoms include increased frequency of urination, especially at night time, difficulty in initiating flow of urine, straining for urine, urgency for urination etc.

The major risk for having BPH is advancing age. Hormonal disturbances associated with increasing age are thought to be at the root of this condition.

Homoeopathy, a novel science of therapeutics, is based on the principle that disease is a total affliction of body and hence homoeopathy believes in treating a person who is diseased rather than treating isolated diseased organs of the body. This approach of homoeopathy has made it possible to treat many so-called surgical conditions without using knife.

Suggestion about homeopathic treatment: Homoeopathy can effectively manage various symptoms associated with BPH. With timely administered homoeopathy treatment it may be possible to avoid surgery in many cases.
