HAVE YOU HAD A HOMOEOPATHIC OPINION?
by Dr. Rajesh Shah
In this
age of information and awareness, for any problem, people are not content to rely on the
advice of one expert. They like to have several opinions on their problems. This is true
in the case of legal matters, technical matters and even in the case of medical matters.
But when it comes to baffling medical problem, most people out of ignorance, forget to
take a homoeopath's opinion, and this, in spite of homeopathy being a scientifically
tested and accepted stream of medicine.
Some case studies could best explain the necessity of
having a homoeopathic opinion.
Case-1 :
Miss
Veena Sanghani had been suffering from fever
for more than eight to ten days. She was then taken to a
local nursing home by the treating general practitioner
since she failed to respond to conventional treatment. At
the nursing home a team of physicians, a surgeon and an ophthalmologist treated her fever
under the premise that :
a) it was viral fever
b) it was typhoid
c) it was caused by malaria
No treatment worked. Her father then transferred
her to a larger hospital with better facilities. There she was referred to a
neurophysician and a neurosurgeon. They diagnosed that she was probably suffering from
T.B. of the brain and recommended that she undergo treatment for a year with
antitubercular drugs.
Even these experts could not guarantee complete
recovery after a year's treatment. Thus the opinions of
several experts had been taken with no conclusive cure.
As a last resort the girl was suggested that homeopathy
be given a chance. The father, by now was willing to try
anything, and readily gave in.
The patient was brought to the homeopath. After making a detailed case study the homeopath
recommended a course of treatment for ten days. Since the father had already spent a lot
of money on allopathy for about 35 days, he agreed to the homoeopathic treatment.
On the tenth day the girl was back at college.
The disbelieving father referred her back to the
neurologist, who pronounced her completely cured. This
case is true and has been recorded on video from day
one. This illustration is not meant to show the ignorance of the allopath but to show the
capability of homeopathy.
Case-II :
Anuj and
Viral, cousins, suffered from adenoids( a
glandular swelling similar to tonsillitis, behind the nose). They suffered from frequent
cold and had to breathe through their mouth for most of the time.
Anuj was brought to a homeopath for treatment. After five months of treatment his adenoids was cured completely. Viral happened to be the son of a radiologist. The father did not
have much faith in homeopathy and did not attribute his nephew's cure to homoeopathy. He
got Viral operated for adenoids. The adenoids were out but the perpetual cold remained.
Timely homeopathic remedy helped Anuj avoid costly surgery.
Many such similar examples can be stated from everyday
practice.
Why is
homoeopathic opinion ignored?
The
reasons are many. Let us examine a few.
1) Ignorance:
Ignorance
on the part of the people as well as the allopathic physicians. An allopath who is unaware that
homeopathy can cure acute streptococcal infection of the tonsils deserves to be condemned.
2) Prejudice:
The
common prejudice is that what cannot be cured by an allopath, cannot be cured by
homoeopathy. If one realizes the fact that one's chances of success or failure depend on
one's field of training then this prejudice will to a large extent be removed. Just as a
cardiologist cannot cure a fractured finger, which only an an orthopedic surgeon can,
similarly an allopath may not be able to cure a wart with medicines, whereas a homoeopath
can. Open-mind, unbiased thinking alone can help the physician help patients better.
3) Misconception:
That,
homoeopathy is slow. That homoeopathy cannot
cure acute conditions. That homoeopathy cannot fight
infections. That homoeopaths cannot appreciate
complications of diseases. All these are mere myths.
4) Inefficiency:
Inefficiency of the homeopaths in not being able to
convince people is another reason for the ignorance about homeopathy. Homeopathy has not
been popularized very well and that is the only reason it has not been accepted as main
stream medicine.
The changing
trend:
The trend
of ignorance is changing. Slum dwellers as well as affluent people are taking recourse to
homeopathy. This shows that the thinking of people is changing. They are more receptive
to the idea of having a homeopathic opinion. It shows that the Indian Populace is becoming
mature. |
