                     Case of Aplastic Anaemia
                 

This is a case of a 13 year old boy (Patient pin no. L-5687) who was brought to the clinic by his uncle on September 25, 2003. Body was a known case of Aplastic anemia. He was diagnosed to have anemia since the past 6 months.

Chief complaints:

This boy used to mainly complain of immense weakness with palpitations which was worse in the afternoon. His breathing was very fast which was worsened by walking fast, climbing stairs, and by any kind of exertion.

There is remarkable numbness experienced by him all over the body which was worse after eating and by constant pressure on ay part. There was a history of formation of ecchymotic patches on injury. He used to have vertigo episodes 2-3 times in a day.

His appetite was markedly less. He complained of paleness of lips and hands for the past 3 months. He had fever occasionally since the past 2 moths. He also had a episode of febrile convulsions once in September 03.

He complained of pain in the mid clavicular region around 4 inches below the clavicle on touch.

There was crackling noise in various joints of his body. Moreover he also complained of increased chilliness since the past 5-6 days which was worse when he came in contact
with cold water.


His Associated complaints:

He suffered with constipation since the past 2 years. He had semisolid to loose stools. The frequency of his bowel movements was once in 2 days. He also complained of pain in the eyes which was worse when doing any kind of fine work.

Past medical history:

He had recurrent urinary tract infections with fever 6 months back. There was also history of Hepatitis twice 10 years back. He was also hospitalized once for Hematemesis.

Past medical treatment:

He was given Injection Anti thrombocytic globulin. Patient was admitted on 25.07.03. He was given packed cell and a pint of platelet infusion on 07.09.03, when he had high grade fever with vomiting and seizures.


Current medical treatment:

He was put on Vitcofol injections, Fetoplex injections on alternate days. He was also given T. Folvite and Capsule Becoslues as well.

But after taking these drugs he experienced many side effects like vertigo as well as vomiting. He was advised that he should be given Platelet infusion every week for at least 2 months time.

He had P. Falciparum infection in August 2003.

He was hospitalized on 28.07.03

He was also given T. Wysolone for a couple of days.

Moreover, he was advised to go for Bone marrow transplant by the conventional line of treatment.

Mental symptoms:

There was loss of interest in studies. This boy was very inquisitive by nature. He liked to do mechanical work, was interested in computers.

He was very creative. Desired reading a lot. He was also short tempered. He did not consider other emotions or feelings at all. He did not like his brother, and that’s the reason he did not mingle with him at all. He plays mischief with his brother and breaks his instruments etc.

He was very confident. Never had any fear or anxiety before exams. However, before results he becomes much tensed.

He desired company and likes to play a lot.

Pt is off his conventional drugs namely T. Danogen since the past 2 months.
His hematologist has advised him to come off T. Neoral since the past 20 days.

His weight has increased by 1 Kg.

He reported to have dry cough since the past 2 days. This has resulted because of him getting wet in rains.

His weight on examination was 53 ½ Kgs.

Mentals: His anger and  aggressiveness had reduced drastically.

His episodes of recurrent upper respiratory tract infections had drastically reduced by now.

He reported to have it only 1/mnth. The intensity has reduced dramatically and it would last for around 5 days or so.

He reported to have pus filled boils on his forhead for the past 2 weeks, for which he was treated adequately.

He was prescribed homoeopathic drugs and called for a follow up after every month. The conventional doctors had advised him to go for Bone marrow transplant but then that was not possible at this time as there was no matching donor available.

Remark: The patient was just treated with the aid of these tiny deep acting pills. The reader of this case is the best judge to witness that this child could be saved from the surgeon’s knife.
